São Gonçalo do Rio das Pedras

São Gonçalo do Rio das Pedras

Time seems to have passed much more slowly for the village of São Gonçalo do Rio das Pedras. To arrive at the place is to feel immediately in the times of the colony.

The town dates from the 18th century and is part of the same history as Diamantina and Serro, places that were popular for the exploration of precious stones. Unlike its neighbors, São Gonçalo do Rio remains today as a small town, where less than two thousand residents live. The scenery is typical of the countryside, with cows walking through the streets, residents sitting at the door of the houses and the wonderful smell of homemade food coming out of the windows.

With colonial architecture and surrounded by beautiful waterfalls, the Serro district has sceneries worthy of a postcard.

The Matriz de São Gonçalo fascinates visitors by preserving the style of 18th century Baroque buildings. The squares in the district reserve corners in the shadows of the trees for rest.

With abundant and arboreal vegetation, São Gonçalo enchants not only for its beautiful appearance and delicious waterfalls, but also for the hospitality and simplicity of its village.
